The Canadian Malnutrition Task Force identified from its recent study Nutrition Care in Canadian Hospitals that there are multiple barriers to ensuring patients' receive adequate food. Forty-five percent of patients are malnourished upon admission to Canadian hospitals with 71% of those patients showing no improvement or worsening in terms of nutritional status. A unified approach of a “food aware" health care team can prevent, detect and treat malnutrition.
