The Canadian Malnutrition Task Force identified from its recent study Nutrition Care in Canadian Hospitals that there are multiple barriers to ensuring patients' receive adequate food. Forty-five percent of patients are malnourished upon admission to Canadian hospitals with 71% of those patients showing no improvement or worsening in terms of nutritional status. A unified approach of a “food aware" health care team can prevent, detect and treat malnutrition. This panel of speakers will provide the knowledge behind the why and how to change the nutrition culture in Canadian hospitals to ensure good patient outcomes and decrease hospital stays.
