This 60-minute webinar that will provide information on DHA and its role in maternal and child health. The webinar will aim to:
• Raise awareness of the intake of DHA by mothers and infants
in Canada
• Increase ones knowledge on the requirements for DHA for
optimizing the health of mothers and infants
• Develop an appreciation of the factors that influence DHA
status
• Offer strategies as to how to improve the status of DHA by
mothers and infants in Canada
Speaker:
Dr. Catherine Field
Dr. Catherine Field is a Professor in the Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Sciences in the Faculty of Agricultural, Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Alberta, Edmonton Canada. She is co-Director of the newly formed Cancer Research Institute of Northern Alberta. She obtained her PhD in Nutrition and Metabolism from the Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry at the University of Alberta in 1988 followed by post-doctoral work in the Department of Medicine at McGill University. Her research program centers on the effect of nutrition on the development of the immune system and the role of nutrients in the treatment of cancer. Current research studies related to this webinar include: determining the effect of diet, particularly long chain polyunsaturated fatty acids and choline, on infant development and she is co-PI of a large Alberta-based maternal infant cohort. Current professional service activities include being Associate Editor for Advances in Nutrition and a member of the Institute Advisory Board of the INMD of CIHR, the Board of Trustees of the International Life Science Institute and the Expert Advisory Scientific Advisory Council of Dairy Farmers of Canada. Dr. Field has published more than 200 peer reviewed publications. She has received the ILSI Future Leaders award, the McCalla Scholarship and Killiam Professorship
