Mary Edmonds Cogswell, RN, DrPH, FAHA is a Senior Scientist with the Epidemiology and Surveillance Branch, Division for Heart Disease and Stroke Prevention, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) in Atlanta, Georgia. Dr. Cogswell received her Masters of Public Health in Health Services Research, and Doctorate of Public Health in Nutritional Epidemiology from Johns Hopkins University, Bloomberg School of Public Health, Baltimore, Maryland, followed by a post-doctoral fellowship in epidemiology in the Epidemic Intelligence Service program at CDC. Dr. Cogswell's work includes applied research, surveillance, policy and program evaluation related to nutrition and public health. Her current research interests are nutrition and cardiovascular disease, with an emphasis on sodium reduction. Dr. Cogswell has presented nationally and internationally, authored over 150 publications, mentored students and fellows, provided technical assistance to state, national, and international organizations, and served as an editorial board member for the Journal of Nutrition. In 2015, Dr. Cogswell received the inaugural Kruse Research-to-Policy Alumni Achievement Award from the Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health for her research and policy contributions to sodium reduction in the United States.
