Low-carbohydrate, high fat (LCHF), ketogenic diets are one the most popular diet searches on google. Much of the attention on LCHF diets relates to claims surrounding performance for both competitive and recreational athletes, especially when it comes to endurance sport. This presentation will provide a physiological and evidence-based examination of LCHF diets for athletic performance, with a focus on endurance sports.


About the Speaker: Dr. Trent Stellingwerff, Lead Research and Innovation, Canadian Sport Institute Pacific

Since 2011, Dr Trent Stellingwerff serves as the Director of Innovation & Research and Lead of Performance Services at the Canadian Sport Institute Pacific (Victoria, Canada). In this role, he directs 15 different major research projects across different sport performance discipline areas, with 6 PhD to Master's students involved. His primary sport and research focuses is via his physiology and nutrition expertise primarily to Canada's National Olympic track and field team, with consulting roles to Rowing, Cycling and Triathlon Canada. Trent has more than 75 peer-reviewed scientific publications and 5 book-chapters in the areas of exercise physiology, skeletal muscle metabolism and performance nutrition and supplementation. In 2010 Trent was a lead author and presenter for the IOC (International Olympic Committee) Consensus Meeting in Nutrition. Over the years, Trent has attended 3 Olympic Games, 4 Commonwealth Games and 6 World Championships.
